Meta enables content creators on Facebook and Instagram to receive payouts in USDC stablecoin across Solana and Polygon networks. The company partnered with Stripe to process these payments in select countries, marking Meta's direct integration of blockchain infrastructure for creator compensation.
The move addresses creator demand for faster, lower-cost international payments. Traditional banking channels charge substantial fees and impose settlement delays. USDC on Solana and Polygon offer transaction costs under $0.01 and near-instant finality.
Stripe handles the fiat-to-stablecoin conversion and custody, reducing friction for creators unfamiliar with self-custodial wallets. Creators receive USDC directly to Stripe-managed addresses, then can withdraw to personal wallets or exchange for local currency.
Meta's initiative signals institutional adoption of stablecoins for payroll-adjacent use cases. The company previously tested cryptocurrency payments in select markets but faced regulatory pushback. This Stripe partnership provides regulatory cover through an established payments processor.
The rollout remains limited to specific jurisdictions, likely excluding high-enforcement regions like the U.S. Stripe's compliance infrastructure determines geographic availability. Solana's transaction speed and Polygon's Ethereum compatibility position both networks as production-ready for this use case.
