Ravencoin plunged to record lows after mining pools controlling the majority of the network's hash rate initiated a competing blockchain fork. The pools are constructing an alternative chain capable of triggering a three-day blockchain reorganization, a critical vulnerability that puts all recent transactions at severe risk.

The exploit exposes a fundamental weakness in Ravencoin's consensus mechanism. When a small number of mining pools concentrate hash power, they gain the ability to rewrite transaction history. A three-day reorg window allows attackers to reverse confirmed transactions, double-spend coins, and drain exchange wallets. Users cannot trust any transaction settled within that timeframe.

This isn't theoretical. Mining pools holding majority hash rate can execute the attack with minimal cost. They simply mine an alternative chain in secret, then release it to the network. Nodes follow the longest chain rule and abandon the original transactions. The attacking miners capture transaction fees twice and drain liquidity from unprepared exchanges.

Ravencoin's price collapse reflects market recognition of the exploit's severity. When transaction finality evaporates, the token loses its primary utility. Merchants won't accept payments. Exchanges won't credit deposits. Holders dump positions before the network becomes unusable.

The vulnerability stems from Ravencoin's relatively low hash rate compared to larger proof-of-work networks. Bitcoin and Ethereum secure billions in TVL because attacking them requires controlling 51 percent of hash power, which costs billions in hardware and electricity. Ravencoin's smaller network provides no such defense.

The competing chain attack differs from a standard 51 percent assault. Pools don't need to own majority hash rate permanently. They only need enough computing power to mine faster than the honest chain during a concentrated period.
